ABOUT THE CHURCH

No one seems to know much about the old Marburg baptist church other than it was mysteriously abandoned for years before being converted into a rustic boutique. Missing its foundation stone little is known about its history but plenty of locals have reported bumps in the night close by!

ABOUT THE PUB

The Marburg pub has a long history with its local spooks! From their resident ghost to unexplained happenings, plenty of people have reported unexplainable happenings on site. Never mind room number three where a local school teacher tragically committed suicide before she was able to give birth.

ABOUT THE PICNIC

On arrival you can expect blankets, pillows and lots of fabulous outside picnicy fun at the Soul Nook. Our Host Taryn specialises in rustic styled picnics so you will enjoy the very best hospitality Marburg has to offer as you sit gingerly under the beautiful old trees and learn to paint the iconic mud hut that was the original Marburg pub. While you paint light refreshments including a grazing platter will be available to take the edge off as you head to the pub for dinner.

ABOUT THE PAINTING

Magritte painted The Son of Man as a self-portrait. The painting consists of a man in an overcoat and a bowler hat standing in front of a short wall, beyond which is the sea and a cloudy sky. The man's face is largely obscured by a hovering green apple. However, the man's eyes can be seen peeking over the edge of the apple. Another subtle feature is that the man's left arm appears to bend backwards at the elbow.  About the painting, Magritte said:"At least it hides the face partly. Well, so you have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the visible but hidden, the face of the person. It's something that happens constantly. Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see. There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the visible does not show us. This interest can take the form of a quite intense feeling, a sort of conflict, one might say, between the visible that is hidden and the visible that is present."

You can see the original here. We will be painting our take on it in acrylics.

Come lean back and enjoy this AMAZING experience with us!!
